A Render alternative for Laravel in Europe.
Render is a managed platform from San Francisco: web services, workers, cron jobs, Postgres and Key Value from Git or Docker, at fixed instance prices, on AWS. Brewless runs your Laravel app in your own Scaleway and bunny.net accounts instead, two European-owned clouds, as containers that can stop when nobody visits.

Render and Brewless at a glance
| Topic | Render | Brewless |
|---|---|---|
| Company | Render Services, Inc., San Francisco, United States. | Coding Agency, Meppel, the Netherlands. |
| How your app runs | Managed containers from Git or Docker, with zero-downtime deploys and, from the Pro plan, autoscaling on CPU and memory. | Serverless containers: your app starts with traffic and stops when it is quiet. There are no servers to manage. |
| Whose account | Render’s own infrastructure. | Yours: your own Scaleway project and bunny.net account. Brewless is the control plane and is not in the path of your visitors. |
| Infrastructure | Amazon Web Services. | Scaleway (France) for your app, bunny.net (Slovenia) for the edge in front of it. Both European companies. |
| Regions in Europe | Frankfurt, next to Oregon, Ohio, Virginia and Singapore. | Paris, Amsterdam, Warsaw and Milan. |
| Scales to zero | Only free instances, which spin down after 15 minutes without traffic; for paid services it is not listed. | Yes, when you set the minimum to zero. |
| Price | Hobby free, Pro $25 and Scale $499 a month per workspace, plus compute: a web service from $7 a month. Postgres from $6 a month. | Free to try with one application. Paid plans from €15 a month, with unlimited environments on every plan. Scaleway and bunny.net bill you directly, and Brewless takes no percentage of that. |
| For Laravel | A guide for Laravel in Docker with Render Postgres; background workers, cron jobs and a pre-deploy command for migrations exist as general features. | Migrations as their own step in every deploy, queues on Scaleway Queues, the schedule read from your app, Artisan on the live release, and brewless init to start from a vapor.yml. |
What Render does well
- Web services, workers, cron jobs, Postgres and Key Value in one product.
- Fixed prices per instance, so the bill is easy to predict.
- Autoscaling and zero-downtime deploys on paid plans.
- Infrastructure as code with render.yaml, and a compliance list with SOC 2 and ISO 27001.
Where Brewless is different
European clouds
Brewless runs on Scaleway (France) and bunny.net (Slovenia). Render runs on AWS, with Frankfurt as its one EU region.
Your own accounts
With Brewless, the Scaleway project and bunny.net account are yours and bill you directly. On Render, the infrastructure and the bill are Render’s.
Scale to zero in production
Brewless containers can stop when nobody visits, also for a paid production app.
Built for Laravel
No Dockerfile to write: Brewless builds your app, runs migrations as their own step and reads the schedule from your app.
Which one fits?
Pick Render if
- You want one managed platform for several languages.
- You like fixed prices per instance.
- You need a region outside Europe.
Pick Brewless if
- You want your Laravel app with European-owned providers.
- You want the infrastructure in your own name.
- You want containers that stop when it is quiet.
Moving from Render to Brewless
Your render.yaml maps onto brewless.yml: the web service becomes your web container, the background worker your queue, and the cron jobs come from your Laravel schedule. The Dockerfile is not needed. Copy your database from Render Postgres to Scaleway, test, then move your domain.
